Engraving on glass with a diode laser can yield beautiful results, but it requires careful preparation and technique. This article provides some useful tip to help you achieve great outcomes:
1. Preparation
- Clean the Glass: Ensure the surface is clean and free of any dust or fingerprints. Use a gentle glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth for best results.
- Masking: Apply masking tape, marking paper or spay painting to the area you want to engrave as any highly reflective surface or transparent material will lead to an autofocus failure of the machine.
2. Settings and Software:
Tempera Paint:
- 75% Power,125 Speed, 200 Line Density
- 65% Power, 80 Speed, 300 Line Density
Laser marking paper:
- 30% Power, 30 Speed, 100 Line Density
Tips:
- placing a white paper/tissue under the bottom if it's too dark to make the design.
3. Post-Engraving
Cleaning: Once engraving is complete, carefully remove the masking tape or marking paper. If you are using the paint, please allow it to dry.
By following these steps and techniques, you can effectively engrave on glass using a diode laser. Experiment with different settings and masking techniques to achieve the best results for your projects.
